Imphal, February 05 2013: A report on "People's Review: Performance of State Government and Commitments under Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)" has been released by five different human rights groups in Imphal on Tuesday.

Community Network for Environment (CONE), Human Rights Alert, Manipur (HRA), Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR), Sustainable Livelihood Forum, Manipur (SLF-M) and United Voluntary Youth Council (UVYC) jointly released the report during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club.

HRA executive director, Babloo Loitongbam said the People's Review Report was being simultaneously released in five regions of the country on Tuesday.

The UN in 2000 adopted the MDGs wherein it was promised to fulfill basic rights of the citizens of the world by year 2015, he said.

He pointed out that the state Governments in the country had not yet realized it till date, resulting in a debate throughout the globe on whether to continue with it.

However, different substances had been put in the MDGs from nine regions in the country after setting additional new demands to it with a hope to go ahead with it, he added.

He said the report which includes eight different issues encountering in the nine regions were simultaneously releasing in five different regions, including Manipur today, Babloo informed.

The eight issues which the nine regions intend to recommend in the MDGs are eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality, women empowerment and social inclusion, health (reduce child mortality rate, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases), ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development and good governance.
